Gaga was introduced to her performance artist Lady Starlight during this time and, following a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Having served as an apprentice songwriter for an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later purchased by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga was then able to sign a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Gaga was commissioned to write songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album that Gaga released in 2008 'The Fame' received lukewarm media coverage. Gaga went on tour across Europe as well as in the US to promote her debut album. However, it was not until the 2009 smash "Just Dance" that the attention of the mainstream was paid to her music. Gaga suffered from a tear to the labrum in her right leg, which she was secretly nursing for several weeks so that she could go on the tour. After a show in Toronto left her unable to walk, and with a lot of pain the singer was admitted to a hospital for surgery, and the tour was postponed.
